Invited (or solicited) cover letters reply to a job ad in a newspaper or on the internet. When writing an invited cover letter, you should not neglect to mention where you have read the advertisement. Subject headings are ideal for this purpose. If you don't use a subject line you will have to open your letter with a standard sentence such as "When glancing through The Times job section... ". Because invited cover letters are a reply to a job ad, you have got some idea about what kind of candidate the recruiter is looking for. Job ads mostly mention the required profile and a job description. Even though this information is not always completely reliable, it guides you in the right direction.
