To get information about what a job is like, you can go beyond the ad itself. Read related magazines, talk to employees in the same function, check the corporate website or find related blogs. There is a vast list of possible sources. Just as important as knowing what a job is like, is getting information about the company. If you have decided that working in a hierarchic environment is not your cup of tea, you will want to find out what the organisational structure of your future employer looks like. You can get a lot of information from the corporate website, which often includes a mission statement and a number of values the company stands for. Needless to say, what is said on the corporate website is again an idealisation. Check newspaper articles or related magazines to get more information from other sources.
